We get a thrill and sense of excitement when entering to play, and we know you will too. If this is your first time playing a lottery game, or you are interested to learn more about the other lottery games, we have put this information together for you so you know how to play.
Keno results is a website for those who love to play lottery type games.
Lotto, Powerball, and Strike are the three more traditional and common lottery games in the New Zealand lottery. Each of these games have draws on both Wednesdays and Saturdays, so you can play each of them two times per week. The overall goal of these three games is to match the numbers on your ticket to the numbers picked in the draw.
Strike! is a lottery game that can be purchased in addition to Lotto. You can add Strike to any Lotto ticket for just $1 per line.
In Strike, the goal is to match the numbers on your ticket with the first four numbers of the Lotto draw, in the exact same order. The winning numbers must be on the same line of your ticket. If this happens, then you have won the top prize – a Strike Four!
Lotto is the most basic, traditional New Zealand lottery game. To play, you choose six numbers between 1 and 40 to make a line. In order to enter a draw, you must play at least four lines. So, you would choose six numbers between 1 and 40, at least four times.
You can choose your own numbers for each line, or you can play a Dip, where random numbers are automatically generated for you by the system.
At each draw, six winning Lotto numbers, and one additional bonus number, are drawn. However, there are seven different Lotto Prize Divisions, or tiers. In other words, even if you do not have a perfect match for all six numbers, there are still 7 other ways and chances to win a prize. A breakdown of each division and prize is shown in the table below.
Like Strike!, Powerball is another lottery game that can be added on to Lotto.
To play Powerball, you must choose a Powerball number between 1 and 10 to each line on your ticket. If you have a winning six number Lotto line, and you also guess the correct Powerball number, the jackpot is even bigger!
The Lotto First Division prize is NZD $1 million for every single draw.
If multiple players win, the prize will be shared equally.
The Powerball First Division prize is NZD $4 million and increases with each draw until someone wins. Or, if the jackpot reaches NZD $50 million, then a ‘Must Be Won’ draw will occur. If no one wins that draw, the prize will go down a tier.
Like Lotto, if there are multiple Powerball winners, the prize is shared equally.
The Strike 4 jackpot grows at every draw until it is won. Like Powerball, there is a ‘Must Be Won’ jackpot level.
Also, like Lotto and Powerball, if there is more than one winner, than the jackpot is shared equally.

Choosing the right lotto numbers is often seen as the key to unlocking a windfall, but the approach varies widely among players. Some prefer to rely on quick picks, where the numbers are randomly generated by the system, leaving everything up to chance. This method is popular among those who believe that randomness is their best bet in a game of luck.
On the other hand, some players have personal systems or superstitions that guide their number selection. They might choose numbers based on significant dates, such as birthdays or anniversaries, or recurring numbers that they’ve noticed in previous draws. While there’s no statistical advantage to this approach, it adds a layer of personal involvement and excitement to the process.
Another strategy involves studying past results. Some players meticulously analyse patterns, looking for numbers that appear more frequently than others, though it’s important to note that every number theoretically has an equal chance of being randomly drawn in each game. Despite this, the perception of “hot” or “cold” numbers remains a popular method for many enthusiasts.
Keno is a game that blends elements of both bingo and the lottery, offering players a dynamic and engaging experience. Unlike traditional lottery games where you choose numbers and wait for a single draw, the keno machine allows you to play multiple games in a short span, with the potential for instant results.
In keno, players choose a set of numbers, typically ranging from 1 to 80. The number of spots a player selects varies, and so does the payout. The more numbers you choose, the higher your potential winnings, but also the greater the challenge of matching them all. After placing your bet, the keno game draws a set number of numbers, usually 20, randomly. Your winnings are determined by how many of your chosen numbers match those drawn by the game.
Keno offers various betting options, allowing players to wager different amounts based on how many numbers they pick and how much they’re willing to risk. This flexibility is one of keno’s main attractions, as it caters to both casual players in casinos and high-stakes gamblers.
Purchasing Powerball tickets is simple, whether done through authorised retailers or online. When you buy a ticket, you’re entering both the main Lotto draw and the Powerball draw, the latter offering the chance at large jackpots. You select six numbers from a pool for Lotto and an additional Powerball number from a smaller pool.
For those looking to increase their odds, system bets are an option, allowing you to select more numbers, though this comes at an additional cost. Online platforms often enhance convenience with features like subscriptions and syndicate play.
Understanding the rules and regulations of each lottery game is crucial for a successful and enjoyable experience. In Lotto, matching at least three numbers wins a prize, with higher matches leading to bigger rewards. Powerball requires matching both the Lotto and Powerball number for the jackpot.
Keno operates differently; the more numbers you select, the harder it is to win, but the potential payout increases. Each game has specific rules about how many numbers can be chosen and what constitutes a winning keno ticket.
Keno offers various betting options to suit different strategies. The most straightforward is the straight ticket keno draw, where you select a number of spots and win based on how many match the drawn numbers.
Way tickets are another option, allowing players to group numbers into different combinations within a single game, which can increase the chances of winning smaller prizes. Progressive jackpot tickets also attract players looking for bigger payouts over time.
Powerball is renowned not just for its large jackpots, but also for its special features that enhance the playing experience. One such feature is the Powerplay option, available in some international versions of the lottery style game, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings by a certain factor, depending on the Powerplay number drawn.
Another feature is the addition of supplementary games that are sometimes included with Powerball tickets. These games, like the Strike or the Bonus Ball, give players additional chances to win prizes without having to purchase extra tickets. These supplementary draws often have their own set of rules and prizes, making the overall experience of playing Powerball more engaging.
The syndicate play option is another significant feature. By joining a syndicate, players can pool their resources to buy more tickets collectively, thereby increasing their chances of winning. While the prize is shared among all members of the syndicate, the likelihood of winning something substantial is higher than playing alone with fewer tickets.
Checking your winning numbers is a crucial part of playing any lottery game. With technological advancements, this process has become easier and more accessible. Results are available on official websites, through mobile apps, and at retail outlets with automated ticket checkers. This convenience ensures that players can quickly determine if they’ve won and take the necessary steps to claim their prize.
Lottery apps are particularly useful for regular players, offering instant results and notifications if they have winning tickets. Automated ticket checkers at retail outlets also provide a quick and easy way to confirm a win, especially if you have multiple tickets to check.
While lottery games are largely based on luck, certain strategies can enhance your experience. In Lotto and Powerball, using system bets allows players to select more numbers, increasing the chances of a win but also raising the cost of the ticket. Syndicate play is another effective strategy, pooling tickets to improve the odds of winning.
In most keno games, players often select a balanced range of numbers, mixing high and low, or even and odd numbers. Some focus on “hot” numbers that have been frequently drawn, hoping they will continue to appear. While these strategies don’t guarantee a win, they add a layer of planning and engagement to the game.
Claiming your prize is an exciting process, but it’s important to follow the correct procedures. For smaller prizes, you can usually claim your winnings directly from the retailer where you purchased your ticket. If you play online, the prize is typically credited to your account automatically.
For larger prizes, especially jackpots, a more formal process is required. You’ll need to present your winning ticket to the lottery operator’s office, along with identification and a completed prize claim form. Keeping your ticket safe and following the necessary steps ensures that you receive your winnings without any issues.
